Where I stayed
Christmas tree farm

Heyo,   Back in the land of instant access.  I woke up tucked behind a plot of christmas trees.  I went to sleep looking at a full moon and woke up to the sun starting to burn the fog off in my van!  The night before I stayed on the street in Arcata (home of the Humboldt State Fighting Buzzzers) next to an empty church in the student area, nobody even drove by, very quiet.  Now I am south of Portland waiting for the traffic to clear before I scour up a YMCA for a quick shower and check out Portland.

The trip from SF to Ukiah was beautiful, I got to go pretty slow a lot so I got to stare at the mountains constantly.  I wondered how long it takes to where you don't notice.  I am fascinated by mountains.  The drive to Eureka was insane!  I have been through mountains all over the world and that drive was incredible.  There were very few people on the road and I found myself going slow and stopping and taking pictures, it kept getting better as the mountains changed from grassy to rocky, from live oaks to firs to redwoods.  Frequently while driving I have gotten the giggles when I am seeing something so beautiful.  When I saw my first big Redwood I barked out loud and started laughing so hard that my eyes were watering.  Fortunately there was noone around so me doing forty mph didn't bother anybody while I got it together.  You know it's big, I understood what it was going to be like, but......WOW you don't get it until it's right there.  Pictures can't do it justice, but I certainly did try.   When I finally stopped to play I didn't stay long, I was on a mission from Lisa!

Her's some pics of the drive, next post- the mission and Oregon's coast.

The redwoods cannot be captured in pictures and everyone should see them once in their life. The size can't be explained and pictures don't begin to show how tall they are. I think I took some of those same pictures when Steve and I were there. Glad you got to experience those Redwoods.

I'm not sure I'm happy when my wife references "Steve" and "size" in the same post...
