Tiplitce Rocks, 13th.
Wow, and I mean fraking wow. The Teplitce Rocks and the National Park they reside in is one of my top five most amazing places to have ever seen and hiked.
We did a walk today called the Rock Labyrinth Loop and it took us up through forests of gold & blood red deciduous trees and paths carpeted with their fallen leaves, dispersed with the lush green of pines. We reached rock formations and caves the likes of which I don't think I've ever seen before. Towering columns of granite and sandstone cut through with trees growing out of them, shaped by wind, water and time. Some rocks have fallen and been caught by chasm walls and its easy to see the ground under them, or a stream running around the gap its created... it makes a great photo opportunity. Other rock formations you can walk between and get very close to feeling claustrophobic in, I wish I had taken a headlamp to go into some of the caves available. The colours of the moss on the trees and rocks, the colours in the sandstone, the trees of all colours against the granite pillars... I can't go on enough about the grand scale of it all.
Most of the people doing the hike, which wasn't hard if you take the left route around, were Polish. Happy holidaying families. The six kilometre track would talks you two hours, but give yourself three for sightseeing.
Christina and I kept thinking of Picnic at Hanging Rock and if one got ahead of the other we would yell out "Miranda... Miranda...". It was funny at the time if you've seen the movie.
It took three trains to reach this little town on the edge of the national park from Prague and I'm so glad we left early.
Lastly if you do visit I recommend stopping at the white signs to try and find the rock formations they've pointed out, like The Giant's Trousers, the owl, the cat fish and the horses head to name but a few.
