We've said our goodbyes to the people that warmly welcomed us to Barcelona, like Pablito, Hector and Leandro and now it's time to face the fact that one episode has finished and a new one is commencing. We've been in Spain for 6 months now, working, traveling, meeting new people, experiencing new sensations, getting our feet wet. But now it's time to move to other horizons. Get to know other experiences, meet other people, see new places.

We're waiting for the boarding call for our 22:30 flight to London. We'll be arriving in Gatwick Airport at around midnight, where Andy will be meeting us. We'll be crashing at his place for a couple days till we get ourselves sorted out, find a place to live, a job, find our way around the city, etc.

I've never been more scared. It was scary to leave Buenos Aires for Spain but for some reason, I am more scared now. Could it be fact that we're moving to a country that speaks a different language than Spanish? Could it be that London is the most expensive city in the world? Is London just a scary city for me?

It's one thing traveling to a country and another completely different is moving. Ed and I have come up with a strategy: we convince ourselves that we're going to hate London, that it's going to suck, so that we become pleasantly surprised easier. It worked for us in Mallorca, why wouldn't it work now? Just sink your expectations to below zero and the first good thing that comes along will be like a blessing from heaven.

We'll see what happens when we get there. I try not to think too much. For now I'll just wait for the pleasant surprises to come.

On Spain

Aside from our nervousness, and on a different note, we felt we needed to take some time and contemplate the six months that we'd been in Spain. We went through all of our pictures, remembering moments, places and people, and after selecting what we think is a good visual summary of our stay, we also came up with a few parting thoughts.

After half a year in Spain we have learned:

01. that garlic and olive oil in obscene amounts are a must in any Spanish dish
02. that Barceloneans and Mallorcans do not like each other
03. that the Basque Country is an Autonomous Community of Spain, where Euskara is  spoken, not an Indo-European language, but rather a language isolate.
04. that Havana Club 7 and Coke with a twist of lemon is my new favorite drink
05. that Spaniards love how Argentine girls speak
06. that the Mediterranean Sea is quite salty
07. that getting robbed does not necessarily happen in South America
08. that Ibiza for more than 5 days is unhealthy
09. that travelling by subway is not as hard as I thought
10. that Spanish olives can be addictive
11. that Barcelona is the capital of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, which is self-proclaimed a Nation, with its own president.
12. that "paella" is the Spanish Sunday BBQ
13. that Spanish people tend to be aloof until they get to know you
14. that the cost of living in Argentina is more expensive than in Europe....currencies aside.
15. that people in Barcelona dress better than in Madrid
16. that people take the time and care to separate their type of garbage for recycling purposes.
17. that Spanish people don't like to say "excuse me", they much rather bump into you purposely.
18. that Spanish guys don't approach girls, they wait for the girls to come to them
19. that Spain is an incredibly diverse land, with different languages, idiosyncrasies, and geographies from east to west and north to south.
20. that we'll be seeing much more of this country again soon.................

Costly
I have just read that you state that London is the most expensive city in the world. I must correct you. Dublin is far more expensive and so is Tokyo. If you know London, London can be very cheap. Chinese whispers, this is what makes the world go round

London Myth No. 1
You're right! It's not as expensive as everyone says. There are things that are a bit off the roof though. As far as Dublin or Tokyo go, I'll ave to get back at you....

Cheap London
If you look around, London can be very cheap, but you do need to know where to go. If you look in the forums, I have written a frequently asked questions on London, which might be a little helpful

Enjoy
