I never thought I┤d be drinking 1litre bottles of Stella in Argentina, but the old ┤wife beater┤is very popular here and suprisingly it doesn┤t have the same effect on my guts as back at home. But that┤s how I found myself at 2am on a Wednesday night, sitting outside a bar in San Telmo in Beuenos Aires, drinking beer again with folks from my classes and a couple of teachers.

The previous night I┤d been to a French-themed bar called ┤La Cigale┤with two norwegian girls who are staying with the son of the mother I┤m staying with. They┤re pretty quiet, but nice girls and they livened up after a few beers. Was really pissed off at the bar when I first got there because it took me 20 mins to get served. The bar staff were doing fuck all except chatting up birds....some things are just universal. Turns out you have to wave your hand in the air to get their attention. Once I learnt this, it got served in about 10 seconds.

It was a good night, we got on like a house on fire and were generally laughing and joking about who knows what. Every so often they┤d get chatted up by a some blokes....although or perhaps because the girls are only about 18..... and once they┤d been rejected, I┤d practice my spanish by quizzing the blokes in drunken spanish about good places to go out and comment on how fit the girls in Argentina were. Also got chatting to some english girls from Manchester, but can┤t remember anything about them. Rolled into bed at about 3am and got up at 8:30 for lessons as normal....couldn┤t function at all though.

Which brings me back to San Telmo. I had meant to go to Opera Bay (think Sydney Opera house with 5 dancefloors), which is supposed to be a good nightclub here. However, on Wednesday nights, it┤s a night called ┴fter work┤, which invloves exactly what it says on the tin, namely a load of office types, going there after work and staying till 1am. However, in reality it consists of people dressing up in their finest formal attire, pretending to have loads of cash and getting lashed. However, not having brought my finest suit and shoes, and being informed by locals that you can┤t get in with jeans and T-Shirts, I decided to skip it at the last minute and ended up going to San Telmo.....unfortunately I forgot to tell the Swiss girls and they ended up waiting for an hour for myself and another student.....woops. Milton, one of the teachers says he┤ll arrange a trip to opera bay for next wednesday and will sweet-talk the bouncers into letting the ┤extranjeros┤ (foireigners) in despite their clothes, because he said it would be a pity not to experience ┤las chicas lindas┤(the beautiful girls) there.

Had a great night in San Telmo anyway, drank and ate loads, met some new people in the form of a beer loving Norwegian couple. It provided me with an opportunity to tuck into my third and fourth steaks of my trip. This time I had ┤bife de lomo┤ (a bit more expensive at 4 whole pounds), which is a succulent tenderloin. It was possibly one of the finest pieces of meat I┤ve had in a long time, possible only beaten by the ┤bife de chorizo┤(rump steak) I had last week. I followed this with a piece of ┤Vacio, which is flank....more fatty but with a great taste. Still have a long way to go if I want to go through the whole cow.

Rolled into bed at 3am again....you must remember it┤s quite normal...ish ....here.

Tonight I┤m off to a tango show in town, probably followed by a few drinks....I need a vacation!!!!!
