As the promised rain hadn't arrived, we visited Miami Metro Zoo on Sunday afternoon.  As we arrived the heavens opened and the lady selling the tickets kept asking us if we were sure we wanted them as we couldn't expect our money back if it didn't stop raining.  Yvonne politely explained that we were from England and we were used to rain and would not expect to get our money back, and oh yes, could we purchase three of the lovely plastic ponchos!  We found it strange that people would expect to get their money back but then it's not something that we think about too much in England as a visit to the zoo would always have a high chance of rain. Having purchased the magnificent ponchos and adjusted Steven's to fit, the rain went as quickly as it arrived and we were so warm the ponchos were placed in a bag and there they stayed!
It was a good zoo, half the price of Monkey Jungle, but no fun of feeding the animals.  Sadly Steven lost the plot half way round and wasn't allowed on the water play area, however it involved no running and Steven could not have managed that anyway!
On Monday we visited the Everglades National Park at Shark Valley.  The mission was to see a gator!  On the way there we passed a dead gator by the side of the road - a good sign we thought - there must be gators around.  We then saw one swimming in the man-made channel alongside the road - even better.  The best was yet to come - we were truly gator sated by the time we were finished.  We took a 'tram' ride around the park with a guide who explained the countryside in great detail and pointed out much wildlife.  The first reason we stopped was to look at a little gator in a tiny pool of water by the road and it just continued from there until we reached 'the tower' where we walked passed a larger stretch of water and Yvonne counted 16 at a very quick glance!
Gator sated, we spent Tuesday in the Dolphin Mall in Miami. Steven slept for a good deal of the trip (bonus!).  Later, when he was awake, we passed a hairdresser especially for children, with model cars to sit in and a television to watch your favourite programmes on whilst having your hair cut, but no matter how much we encouraged him he decided against it.  You can't say we didn't try!
Back in the motel room in the evening, we began to pack.  We started travelling light but will be coming home with three extra cases - all full of - in truth, mainly toys for Steven!  D and Yvonne started to get homesick as we put our sterling back in to Yvonne's purse and got out Yvonne's watch which was strangely on BST as she hadn't put it on an hour!
