On our way to Orlando we decided to stop at Daytona. We crossed the bridge to the peninsular where the beaches are found. Once again we discovered that most of the beach frontage was covered with hotels and motels (hotel, motel, Holiday Inn, say what... another hip-hop reference for Arianne!) and therefore was private property. We made our way to the lighthouse at the end of the peninsular named after Leon de Ponce, the first Spanish explorer to arrive in America, where D steadfastly refused to climb to the top! We then managed to find a place to access the beach which, although it was a surfing beach, was very flat and Steven had a whale of a time paddling and 'rounding' on the beach! He also made friends with a couple of local children which he loved. The beach was white and the sea beautifully clear.
After visiting the beach, we stopped at the Daytona International Speedway Stadium, the home of Nascar in the States. Florida was not disappointing us as the temperatures nudged towards the 90's.
Finally, we headed on to Orlando where we had booked a motel for a week together with a six day pass for Disneyworld.
