Top Ten Campsite Picton

We are due to catch the ferry to Wellington from Picton on 9th February, so we made the decision to go to Picton and spend our last four nights on the South Island there.  We were in luck, we got a somewhat small space on a campsite which was pleasant and clean with all the facilities you need, including a trampoline and a swimming pool!
The scenery as always in New Zealand is just astounding and the photos cannot do credit to it, but we try nonetheless.  We travelled in both east and west from Picton and the beautiful scenery cannot be escaped.  At the same time D picked out some fishing spots and had a very successful day's fishing, although the weather was incredibly hot for him.  It has been just above and below 30 degrees and it is pleasantly warm to be out in a tent at night!  We have to bear in mind that it is the reverse of Britain and going from Invercargill to Picton is similar from going to Ayr to Torquay and the equivalent weather variations.
We spent a good time with Steven watching the Interislander Ferry that we will be taking to Wellington reverse into its docking space and unload cars, boats, a lorry with a digger on the back and we even saw a train go on as well!  Hopefully Steven will be as enthusiastic when we make the three hour crossing on 9th!
D's birthday was a low key affair, opening the two cards we had been carrying with us for the last three and a half months and having a takeaway meal of D's choice - Indian on this occasion which met his high standards!  He had treated himself to a New Zealand cricket top so he was happy with that too!  Steven listened whilst Yvonne sang happy birthday and insisted it was for him.  He hasn't quite got the concept that we all have a birthday each year, not that every birthday is his birthday!
