Hoorah! We have arrived in Tokyo.  We made the journey from Narita to the capital today by taxi and train, having been assisted by many a good citizen of Japan who had the advantage of being able to read the writing and use the ticket machines.  Despite a detour suggested by a well intentioned flower seller we eventually arrived in Akasaka where we felt compelled, mainly due to fatigue/laziness, to book in to a less than economy hotel.  However, the coffee in the room is definitely superior and D is happy that we now have BBC news instead of CNN! We also have a separate little lounge area and of course - the internet.  Steven, despite having to spend hours in his pushchair and being lugged up and down the most horrendous stairs in railway stations (nowhere seems to have lifts), has been an angel today, although he does keep asking to go home! He'll get the hang of it all in the end!

First impressions of Tokyo are that it is more cosmopolitan that Narita, although D still has the impression he is a bit of a giant and Yvonne thinks she's the only, albeit fake, blonde in Tokyo.  D is continuing with his marathon sleepfest as we are in need of a rest before we get out there visiting the sites.  D has already sampled the wares of the local MacDonalds and is impressed with the Megamac which contains four burgers!

Several questions come to mind -
1.  Why should we be surprised at Pot Noodle style food being so popular in Japan?
2.  Why did Yvonne ever think that fat waving cats would ever be anything other than tacky?
3.  Why do so many japanese people where surgical masks in public?

The first two we can not answer but we will find out the answer to the third!

Masks
Hi
As far as I know, it is polite for people with the flu to wear a mask, so that they won't contaminate other people.
For sure there are other uses to it, but I remember being told of this one.
