Where I stayed
The day started badly with Steven demanding sweets throughout the entire drive to the airport followed by a refusal to get into the buggy nicely! However, things improved. Virgin Atlantic were friendlier and slightly roomier than when we went to Florida 14 years ago. We also had the additional benefit of having 4 seats for the 3 of us. The children's meals are excellent. Stevie had a frube, dairylea dunkers, pasta in tomato sauce, a gingerbread man and a bag of grapes and apples, a fruit shoot and a little pack of haribos. Needless to say he ate the haribos and dairylea dunkers but was less willing to eat the rest. They were also helpful in getting Stevie a bottle of milk. In fact, Steven was approved to go through security at Heathrow with his half full bottle - more than 100ml and not in a plastic bag!
Japanese baggage handling, customs and immigration were efficient and we got through the airport very quickly. We were then peeved to miss the hotel bus by seconds and would have had to wait an hour and half for the next bus so opted for a taxi which cost 1000 yen (approx £5) which was worth it as they were happy to check us in early. Our room at the Holiday Inn overlooks the airport - not attractive but interesting for Steven. We're much relieved to find there is no noise from the airport at the hotel.
The rest of the day was spent getting connected to the internet (of course), finding a snack and sleeping, although it was only midday in Japan. The internet was easy - just get a cable from reception. The snack was ok - some milk and a pot noodle japanese style from vending machines and a some packets of snacks from a little gift shop in the hotel. An interesting twist on cheesy puffs - pea puffs - pea flvoured snacks! D's comment on the pot noodle - not very hot curry but tasty and the noodles go softer than the english version! Sleeping came easy to all of us and we slept for 6 hours and D is still sleeping, despite Steven's efforts.
So - not much japanese culture yet - but plenty of time yet.
