We gained a day here by passing over the international dateline.  So we've gone from being 13 hours ahead of home to being about 8 hours behind.   Good to see Union Square again and so much life around.  Had a delicious meal in a steak bar off Union Square - only spoiled by the price! It seems so busy after New Zealand. Only here for one day and night as we board the Star Princess tomorrow to sail to the Hawaiian Islands.

On boarding we found we had been upgraded to a mini-suite!!!!.  We didn't ask any questions in case it was mistake!  Boarding was a bit of a nightmare and delayed because the Star Princess had been sailing from elsewhere in the world for the past year and returned to the USA for the first time since on March 19th.  This meant that customs had some heavy procedures to carry out and the coast guard had to board and drill the crew to comply with regulations.  All crew documentation had to be checked as the ship employs around 1300 people from all around the world and with present day security that mean a huge job for someone.  Anyway the minisuite is great and we have to keep pinching ourselves to make sure we're not dreaming.
The Pacific Ocean is so huge we didn't see anyother ships for the 4 days it took to sail over to the Hawaiian Islands.  It's fabulous to stand on the balcony in the middle of the night surrounded by a velvety blackness and only the stars for company!

We loved San Fran! Though yes it's busy - we went after spending a few days at Big Sur - which is in the middle of nowhere!
Hope you're both week and Yvonne you had a lovely birthday. xx
