The day we arrived in Cape Town was absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately our camera battery had died, making it impossible to take advantage of the afternoon to ascend Table Mountain. Our camera battery may turn out to be the most annoying this during this last part of our trip. It can't hold a charge for more than a day. So we sat out on the balcony at our hostel and enjoyed the weather with a delicious sandwich.
Then the rains came. We realized that it was like being in Rio all over again. Everything to do was out of doors and dependent on a good day. Fortunately only one thing also depended on a cloudless day. Things to do in Rio are a little bit higher. We sat around all day waiting for the weather to possibly get better, but it didn't, and we couldn't even go to one of the museums I had on my list because they weren't open on Sundays. In the evening the forecast looked good for the end of the week, but not the next few days. Given our weather dependency we decided to bolt for Stellenbosch and come back when the weather was supposed to be better.
Monday morning we woke up to a beautiful shining day, slapped our foreheads, and packed out. We'd made a reservation, so we'd have to go. In the afternoon we we vindicated once more when the slow drizzle turned into a deluge. This could be an interesting waiting game. And the weather will always win out.
