We had planned our itinerary so that we would be in Sao Paolo the night before our flight to avoid any "rushing to the airport" situations.  Of course, that was before we looked again at our tickets and discovered that the 1:25 was not 1:25 in the afternoon but 1:25 in the morning, a full 12 hours before.  I had squeezed the favela tour in that morning at 10.  Of course, they later moved it to 11:45 and didn't actually arrive until 12:15.

That's how we found ourselves rushing to the Rio bus station at 4:30 the night of our flight.  It was a six hour drive to Sao Paolo.

Don't worry, it all worked out.  Buses departed every 15 minutes, just as our guidebook said.  Although while the guidebook said $15 we paid over $40 a piece.  It was a nice bus, however.  We got a newspaper we couldn't read, snacks in a bus-shaped box, and even blankets and pillows.  We arrive at Sao Paolo around 10:30.  We paid another $30 for a taxi ride to the airport and got there in plenty of time to check in.  Who needs an error margin anyway?

Now we faced a very long plane ride after a very long day.
