The single room I booked with Pension Talaa in Fes (75 dirhams) turned out to be a substandard prison cell-like shack featuring mildew everywhere and walking through the rainy roof in order to use the toilets. No thanks!
Since it was late when I arrived, I decided to stay at Talaa for the first night, but in a double room on a lower floor, for 120 dirhams (even though I was using it all by myself), right next door the night guard's room, who spend the night talking loudly with his friend.
The following day my friend Aziz took me to a nearby brand-new hotel just outside the medina walls. For only 180 dirhams a night I got a beautiful room equipped with TV, AC, hot shower, and lovely furniture at Hotel Jnane Sbil. The staff was so exceptionally friendly I ended up extending my stay here.
