I flew into Cairo to find it cool and not as chaotic as I thought it might be. I'm
staying in the downtown area, which is pretty central and near to the Nile. My hotel
is right next a mosque, so I get to hear the faithful been called to pray 5 times a day.
Kind of adds to the Middle Eastern atmosphere.

I visited the Eygptian Museum on Saturday which is were they exhibit all the Pharoah stuff. The place is packed with Eygptian artifacts and it was impossible to take them all in. The death mask of Toutankhamoun was impressive though.

On Saturday I visited Islamic Cairo which is full of mosques and shops and is very olde worldy Middle Eastern. The authorities have made the official name for the area Fatimid Cairo, as they feared the name Islamic Cairo might scare of the tourists.

It isn't as cheap as I thought it would be, although my room is only 4 pounds a night and you can get a kebab meat sandwich, falafal sandwich and can of pop for less than a quid. But after only a few days I'm already fed up with kebabs and falafals, may have to switch back to Big Macs.

The street car parking in Cairo is something to behold. They just seem to park bumper to bumper and then leave there hand brakes off. Then if anyone wants to get out they just push the other cars back until they can get out. Crazy, but it seems to work as long as you don't mind the front and back of your car taking a few bumps.
