Our last days at home were spent frantically trying to minimise the amount we were taking and at the same time checking we had everything we would need, we both removed much of what we wanted take knowing we would still have too much!

We got to Char's Mum's house on Thursday 27th May and started to finally relax, it was good to be starting the journey and for once we had a relatively stress free journey daan saaf - we normally get lost which doesn't bode very well for the next few months!

We went out for a family meal on our last night in the country and it all turned a bit messy (in a good way) but we won't go into that.

The morning of our flight we had a full entourage with us at Heathrow to see us off, Mum,Chris and Katie, Charlie and Andy, we also saw Stavros Flatley on their way through the gate which was met with much amusement and a little over-excitement on Char's part.

We had been concerned that we may encounter difficulties with our flight given the BA strikes and the volcanic ash cloud but we were very lucky and suffered no delay though we did find out that the 3pm flight had been cancelled so those passengers that could squeezed themselves onto our flight, needless to say, it was a very full flight but we didn't notice we were so happy to be on our way.

The flight was 7 hours and 40 minutes long so we used this time very productively and watched as many films and comedy shows as we could and marvelled over the size of Canada as we flew over lake after lake still having hours to land. It is hard to convey the sheer size of the place.
