Where I stayed
Shinagawa Weekly Mansion
With a JR rail pass, it is easy to navigate around Japan. Easy to make reservations, book seats, and figure out schedules. There are many rail companies and most take the JR pass. The seats were better than airline seats, nice window seats, clean toilets, and someone brings a cart with coffee, tea, bento boxes, etc. for eating on the trains.
November was a great time to be there. cool days, "koyo" fall colors everywhere, great food, not big crowds at the temples and castles. The Japanese people are very welcoming and friendly. I went all around Tokyo, including from Narita airport to Shinagawa, to Odawara, Yokohama, Kamakura city, Hiroshima, Shizuoka, Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, Kagoshima and flew out of Narita three weeks later.
A wonderful country.
