Rome was a lot to take on in one day, but we made a valiant attempt. We had a private guide to take us around. This was the only way to see Rome in a day, and we got a master guide named Giuseppe, who was a published author on the history of Rome. We were able to see the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, the Vatican Museums, and the highlight of St. Peter's Basilica. The artwork, mosaics and frescoes in St. Peter's and the Vatican were amazing. The architecture of St. Peter's was overwhelming in its beauty and its size. We could have spent days in either the Vatican Museums or St. Peter's. It was almost like having only one Oreo cookie. We saw the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps and then we went back to our ship in time to set sail for the next stop on this 12 day cruise of the Mediterranean.
