Well we arrived safely! Thank God for traveling mercies. When I say we I am referring to my work colleague Ashely who is presenting at the conference with me. The flight was about 6.5 hours and it wasn't too bad really. The lady in the row in front of me apparently thought her seat could recline all the way into my lap but other than that it was an uneventful flight. The time difference here is about 6 hours ahead of the U.S,so when we arrived it was 3am US time and 9am here. I actually wasnt tired when we arrived, probably because my adrenaline was still on high alert, but believe me that I eventually crashed later in the day. We exchange a few dollars at the airport and it just added to my disappoint that the US dollars basically sucks in the United Kingdom. Anywho..... we caught a taxi to Queens University which is about 20 miles from the airport and of course it took a bit of getting used too watching people drive on the opposite side of the road. Our taxi driver was on a mission because I swear he was driving at warp speed. As I looked out the taxi window I was taken aback by the beautiful Irish countryside landscapes and homes. I was able to snap a couple of shots but again with our Nascar taxi driver it made it a little difficult. However I am not complaining because I was glad to get to the University so we could download and relax a little. Okay so we are staying in the residence halls because these were the accommodation offered by the conference. Unfortunately they didnt put me and Ashley in the same hall, but we found out that they were not far away from one another. Being in this room really took me back to my undergrad days at Virginia Tech with size of the room, but overall I dont think anything will bother me too much at this point. I did have to purchase a converter to plug in my laptop, curling iron, etc because the plugs here are different. I found one relatively easy for about 1.5lbs.

Unfortunately Ashley's computer and internet are struggling so we spent a good amount of time trying to get her up and running but it didnt work and since its Saturday the helpdesk is closed. The weather here is about 60 degrees or so during the day and in the 50's at night. It is pretty cool so I am glad I pack my warmer clothes for the occasion. I actually like the weather for the most part so far, during the evening you definitely need a coat or light jacket depending on your taste. Its been raining off and on but it hasnt been very heavy at all, but I think I hear it picking up as I type. We went to explore Belfast a little earlier and end up eating at a place called The Barking Dog. It was a nice little cafe style restaurant on the way to City Centre. I had the Fish and Chips( come on you had to know that was coming lol) and it was really good. They had smashed green peas on the side, and it looked alot like guacamole. I was really excited to see the diversity of restaurant cuisines that had even just in our short walk around the university area. There was Thai, Mediterranean, Greek, Lebanese,American, Chinese, etc. I cant wait to sample some the different foods here.

Post nap we went back out and walked even further out this time down to City Centre. I must mentioned that when I woke up from my nap it was about 10pm here and I thought it was way earlier because I couldn't believe how light it was outside to be 10pm at night. It actually didnt get dark here until about 11:15pm. When I say at 10pm I looked out my window and the sun was still shining , it really freaked me out. In addition I was told the sun rises at 6am so this should be interesting. What I am going to do with myself with so much daylight to work with lol.

As we started our walk to City Centre you could tell it was a bustling Saturday night in the city. There were so many people out and about and from some many different ethnic groups. I wonder if this diversity makeup of people extends beyond the area of the university? Anyway the clubs we passed by were jumping and some of the lines to get in were wrapped around the block. I think having lived in college towns for a long time prepared me for the drunk girl who fell in front of me and drunken spontaneous screaming and yelling. It was good to see that in terms of nightlife there wasnt a huge difference in how people party. I did notice the outfits that the females did have a very European flare to them and some were really cute and others well .....you know how it goes lol. As we walked around I really admired a lot of the churches and architecture of the area. We ended up stopping at a Chinese buffet and eating "dinner" it was about midnight here but our body clocks are still on US time. It was pretty good but most every dish on the buffet was really spicy. Now I enjoy spicy food but not in every dish. However the ice cream and dessert bar was nice. All in all today was a good day but definitely had some hiccups along the way. But as far as i am concerned Hey I am in Ireland and I only have a few days here so I am going to relish in every minute I have, problems and ALL.
