We arrived in Kotor, Montenegro by minibus (similar to the Samonsky Wag-o-van) sitting behind a rowdy 60-year-old drunk Brit (no kidding, every 15 minutes the guy took sips of beer from a bottle with a twist-off cap hidden in his backpack, yelling "Montenegro! Doesn't that mean 'Black Mountain'? Why are the bloody mountains all GREEN?").

Kotor, Montenegro is another stunning walled sitting on a bay (or "Fjord" as they call it), along the Adriatic. Montenegro just recently gained independence from Serbia (although Travelpod doesn't seem to have caught on yet) and is part of the EU now. The Montenegrans seem to be extremely pleased.

Although everyone in Montenegro seem much less friendly, the young men still look like they have not shaken the feeling of war, and we now have to start brushing our teeth with bottled water, there's something about Montenegro that make both of us very content to be here. We both feel like the adventure is finally about to begin on this trip. Even better, everything here is CHEAPER and thrifty Pete is on his second Espresso today and will probably be on his third soon....why not? when they cost less that 1 Euro and are delicious to boot. I'm still searching for the best cake in the Western Balkans...Kotor's bakeries look promising. I'll report back later on what I find.

Tomorrow we plan to climb the walls of Kotor which involves 1500 steps straight up into the mountain behind Kotor...we have been promised that the view up top will make it all well worth it. We plan to take many pictures with our new digital camera....after pete decides exactly how to set the "white balance" on our camera. I'm not sure what that means, but there can't be anything wrong with being "balanced"!

love,

Expresso and cake !
Remind Pete about too much coffee! there can never be too much cake! We are waiting for the 'balanced' pictures. It sounds beautiful, but Tito and I wonder if you really are abroad. Katie and Chris go to Florida this weekend for a wedding on an island. Sounds cool! Love, Mom Younkin and Madison
