We're lucky with the weather. Travel guides say to expect rain every day in the Great Smoky Mountains. We had beautiful weather today, but now, late at night, it is pouring. I'm sitting here on the balcony of our hotel room with binoculars at the ready to look at the almost full moon, which was about to rise, as we did last night, but then the clouds moved in and the rain started.

Today, we drove up to Cades Cove, a beautiful valley in the middle of the Smokies. Along the way, we had lunch next to the Little River and the boys got to jump from rock to rock in it. In the afternoon, we drove through the Cades Cove valley and visited some old structures of the earliest settlers there.

When we where at the Cable Farm, we actually saw a black bear that was rummaging in the bushes eating berries.

Afterward, the boys got to swim in the West Prong of the Little River , and, while Noah built cairns (piles of pebbles) Milo was jumping from a rock into the river.

Tomorrow, we're driving through the Smokies to Cherokee in North Carolina. From there, we will head for Charlotte, where Lulu's brother lives, to meet up with him for dinner.
