I don't even remember how that day started. I just remember that I was really tired. I didn't feel well in the morning. Well, it's difficult to feel well in the morning to begin with. But that morning I felt a little bit worse than usual. I had to go to Düsseldorf and work at the office there. Ashley wanted to come with me. So I woke her up. We didn't talk much. We were both pretty tired. We didn't even wake up when we sat on the S-Bahn train. (The S-Bahn train is called "Stadt-Bahn", it's a little bit faster than the "U-Bahn" and connects remote areas of one city or two or more cities).
Arriving in Düsseldorf, I just wanted to drop off Ashley and my basketball stuff at Frank's. We went to Heinrich-Heine-Allee and rang Frank's door bell. It took him a while to open the door. When we arrived on the 4th floor (luckily this house has an elevator) Frank was standing in the door, no shirt on. He'd just got up. We started laughing when we saw each other. Frank made some anti-American statement. Just for fun. Ashley needed some minutes to think aout it. Then she figured that she was being picked on. AGAIN! oh well, ever since she got here we picked on her (not only for being American). So she got used to it.
We came in and drank some coffee. We talked. Drank more coffee. I opened my laptop and connected to the company network. Shortly after, I decided to work from the "home office". All I had to do for the day was to read some papers about some computer technology called "server virtualization". You don't wanna know what that is. But it affects all of you, I'm pretty sure.
We all knew that before. What really scares me though is that nobody is doing anything. George W. Bush became president although Al Gore won the elections. US troops are still in Iraq although until today not a single weapon of mass destruction has been found in the sands of the Iraq desert. Anyway, I think you should watch Zeitgeistmovie. You can watch it for free on www.zeitgeistmovie.com.
When I was really young I saw a movie called "White Boys Can't Jump." Every since I have been fascinated by basketball. Frank and I share this fascination. Though Frank truly is the basketball hero. At least when the two of us play together. So after they had finished watching the movie and I had done my work for the day, we left for the basketball court. Ashley got really pissed along the way. We were talking about Zeitgeistmovie. "There's gotta be something we can do about these guys," she said. We were discussing the options. Although "they" are only a few and "we" are many, it's still gonna be tough to get them down. They are all about money. We are all about living. We just don't match. Frank and I told her that she can make a difference with the decisions she makes. "Everytime when you are thirsty and not buing CocaCola, you're making a decision. You are making a decision against a company that pollutes the water in untouched regions of the planet, steals the water from indigenous people in order to sell them their Coke, and even kills locals over money." It's really all about choices. Get informed. Choose alternative products over commercial ones. Choose FairTrade products. We discussed and discussed. This is not a political blog though. I want to turn this into a soap opera. So let's focus on the main characters again.
After a while we were cold and exhausted. We left for Christiane's apartment (where Frank currently lived and did nothing, because he didn't have a job other than being a student) and got our stuff. Then we took the next train to Düsseldorf. Mari was already asleep when we arrived.
