A cloudy day brought an opportunity for a "city grab".
Venturing out from the campsite to take the advertised Venice excursion we found ourselves embarking on a mighty journey to cross the Laguna Veneta. The Venice "boat" leaving hourly from Chioggia enjoys a number of transformations that I'm sure were in the small print but we were lucky enough to experience without prior knowledge. After about 20 mins on the boat (having been forewarned it was a 90min trip) we arrived not at Venice but on the southern half of the island/bar sitting on the edge of the lagoon where a bus was waiting. This drove at breakneck speed to catch a ferry across to the northern half of the lagoon where we continued at speed to a boat station where a number of different waterbuses appeared. Fortunately we finally did appear at San Marco with everyone else and did what every sensible tourist does with ice cream, pizza, pigeons and Gondolas. In the latter case that being to avoid but take lots of photos.

I am finally here & I love this blog. I am envious & impressed & happy all at once. There cannot be too many photos for me. Sam & Rosie on their little chairs by the lake is my favourite thing in the world. Love to all x x x
