When we drove off the ferry in Wellington it was the first encounter we had had with a motorway. It was a bit surreal to be driving with other cars around... we had hardly seen any other cars on the South Island!
There are no campsites in Wellington itself, so we drove to Upper Hutt, the nearest town where we could spend the night. I was tired and I took lots of wrong exits off the motorway, wrong turns at junctions etc etc. and it all got very frustrating. But, we eventually found the campsite and all was well with the world once more.
As our time on the North Island was short, due to over staying on the South Island, we decided to just spend the morning in Wellington, then drive on to Napier.
Wellington was a nice city, but (and I feel awful saying this) it was just an average city. The usual shops, cafes and high rises. There wasn't really anything worth taking a picture of, which I feel bad about... but there's no point taking a picture of nothing! The coffee was pretty good though.
Oh, and it was reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally windy!!!
