Where I stayed

Thank god that for the next month at least all my long distance travel will be done by plane. I knew I was in for another tough ride on my way here from Lithuania yesterday and the main 20 hour leg wasn't actually that bad although of course I didn't manage to get any decent sleep. I was however treated to some very pretty views in the morning while we were driving through SW Poland and into the Czech Republic as they everything was beautifully covered in snow which lifted my spirits a little, unfortunately as we got into the centre of Prague most of the snow was gone. Anyway, I'd decided that I'd spend my first couple of days in Czech, in Plzen not far from Prague which is of course home to what is supposedly the best beer in the world Pilsner Urquell. I knew there wasn't much in the way of backpacker accommodation which is a problem I've had before but I did have an adress for a youth hostel which I eventually found after a much longer walk than expected. I was greeted by an old bloke who apparently only speaks German, which is better than only speaking Czech as I at least know a few very basic phrases in German, so anyway it was quickly determined that he was full, either that or he couldn't be bother dealing with me, I do find it kind of hard to believe that a rather large looking hostel would be full in Plzen at this time of year. Anyway, he pointed me to a building just down the road which had a hostel sign on it and a doorbell saying hostel which I rang several times and waited patiently but alas noone was home, although I could hear plenty of voices inside so I don't know what the go was. Anyway, giving up on those I thought I'd try for a cheap hotel or pension but when I got into the old town I soon found that I wouldn't be getting a bed for under $50 which I wasn't really prepared to pay. So after a few hours of aimless wandering I gave up on Plzen and got on another bus back to Prague which is thankfully only 1 and a half hours away. So eventually after far too much time spent on buses, exhausted from lack of sleep and with a sore back from the bus rides and lugging my pack all around I finally found myself at a nice old style hostel in Prague, not too far from the centre and I could finally relax.
After a nice rejuvenating shower and a bit of a nap I went down to check out the hostel bar which is a beautiful cosy little brick den and for entertainment 3 Irish guests were playing and singing all their Irish songs which was pretty cool and not exactly what you'd expect to be greeted with in Prague.
Eventually a bunch of us from the hostel, the usual mix of Aussies, four Irish and a Canadian bloke, headed into to town to check out "the biggest club in middle Europe" which appeared to be about all it had going for it. We still managed to have a fun night despite the pretty unimpressive surrounds and I eventually got home for a well earned sleep. Today was pretty ordinary, I think I'm getting a quite bad cold which aint great and hence I haven't been feeling the most energetic today and haven't really managed to get up to much other than book in at the Clown and Bard hostel for tomorrow to meet up with Emily who I met in Greece so it'll be good to have a travel buddy again for few days before I head back to London for the last time.
On the plus side though, the weather is looking promising, we got some snow on the way home last night and it was snowing pretty solidly when I woke up today and it should continue.
Well that's me again, I think from here it'll be back to the hostel for a bit of a lie down before finding some grub and I think settling in for an early night.
