We had high hopes of a 9 am departure, but by the time we were up, showered, dressed, had breakfast of bacon & eggs and gassed up Ms. Goldy, it was 10:30.  It was a little overcast at first, but by the time we left, it was another picture perfect day for our venture to Big Sur. With our dependable driver, Mary Jane and our personable tour guide, Heidi, we were on our way.  On the way to Big Sur, we stopped along lookout points on Highway 1 for some breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.

We stopped at Big Sur Center for snacks and a potty break before arriving at Pfeiffer Beach and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. We spent a lot of time at Pfeiffer Beach, asking a nice lady to take a picture of all of us with the ocean behind us.  Little did we know she was waiting for a wave to come up and get us all wet!  That picture of us all screaming with surprise is on Mary Jane's camera - I hope to be able to upload it later.  Bobbie and Nancy entertained themselves making letters out of rocks to form "YaYa" - what a perfect photo op! There was only one problem - it was extremely difficult to climb up to it in the sand.  What a workout that was! A cute young fellow from Los Angeles agreed to take the picture for us.  Little did we know he was clicking as we were climbing up to the spot.  Jonelle also marked our spot in the sand - LSU - DZ.

The next stop was Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.  Mary Jane had a true parallel parking test,  but passed with flying colors.  We followed a hiking trail to a magnificent view of McWay Falls and another gorgeous view of the ocean. Some people opted for an extended hike, while others headed back to the car. After all this hiking, we had certainly worked up an appetite, so off to Nepenthe Restaurant we went.  We had to wait for over an hour for our table, but the wait was enjoyable as we relaxed with cocktails and, of course, the scenery.  Nancy (our Landscape Architect) visited with the gardener for the complex.  We happened to see some guys leaving and one had on an LSU shirt, and of course, we had to say "Go Tigers."  What a small world - they were from Baton Rouge and the one with the LSU shirt had actually purchased a house in St. Francisville from my cousin and her husband (Jan and Johnny).

After a little shopping in the Phoenix Gift Shop below the restaurant, we loaded back in Ms. Goldy and headed back to Carmel to the tunes of Heidi's Party Rock CD.  What a perfect day it was for these LSU yaya's!
