There are a lot of stray cows on the street.
Depends on which part of the city / street that they live, their lifestyle / eating habbit can be very different. In general, they are always seeking for food. It hurts to see that sometime they will be searching the litter and chewing plastic bags. One time we walked by a road when a cow was licking and tearing off the poster on the wall.
Only if they are lucky enough to live nearby some kind vegetable / fruit hawkers, they can have a good supply of food. I'm really sorry to see that although they are regarded as the holy animal, they are not being treated with respect.
Because cows are always searching for food, and human being is the prime source of food supply, I found that they are vvery sensitive to human eye contact. As long as you stand still and look into their eyes, they'll understand that there's something for them. They also enjoy patting on the forehead.
So far in this trip I have not seen a cat. According to Vinod, cats have negative connotation in India. Yet I cannot find such information on the internet so unforunately that's all I can share. People do not prefer to see cats except for one day in the year. On that day cat means good fortune. But people never find a cat on that day!
