The Senior Girls Volleyball team had to be at school by 4.45am Friday morning in time to leave on the bus to Okotoks, which is about 7 and a half hours south of Cold Lake!  So it was an extremely long bus ride.  Most people slept for the first 2 hours or so, but I can never sleep in buses.  It was pretty quite at first, then we put on a scary movie and watched that, and after that of course it was pretty noisy. We also had Hilary, Stephen and Mr. Reid with us on the bus, and we dropped them off in Airdrie (about an hour north or Okotoks) because they were competing in a cross country event in the mountains just near there and staying with Mr. Reids parents in Airdrie.
We dropped them off, then kept going to Okotoks, but we didn't have time to check into our hotel yet, we had to go straight to the school to play by 2.30 or something.  I can't remember how many games we had that first day, I think it was about 3 or 4.  Again we did alright, but not overly great. Assumption is a 2A school, which is graded by the size of the school.  1A schools are smallest, and 4A schools are the largest, meaning that their sports teams are supposed to be better etc.  So for a 2A school playing in a 4A tournament we did pretty good though.  Again we finished pretty late, so we went to bed as soon as we got there.  Saturday we got up early and had a team breakfast as usual, then got snacks again from Sobey's, then went back to the school to play another 3 or 4 games.  Again we had some really off games, but also some really good games. We finished by about 3.30 that afternoon, so we started driving back to Cold Lake via Airdrie to pick up Hilary, Stephen and Mr. Reid again.  Just as we were pulling into Airdrie, the bus started making funny noises, smoking and the heating stopped working.  Some random guy pulled up beside us to let us know that there was something wrong with the mini bus.  We were pretty sure that we already knew that.  So when we got to Mr. Reid's parents house, Mr. Publow (our coach) called a mechanic and described some of the problems.  He told us what was probably wrong, and that it wouldn't be safe enough to drive back to Cold Lake, or at least at some point it might stop working all together.  So we were stuck in Airdrie.  They were calling around trying to get us a rental bus at short notice, and we thought we had one, but they couldn't get a driver.  Most of us stayed in the bus while they worked out what we were going to do, because we quickly realised that Mr. Reid's mom wasn't too happy about having 15 kids in her house, which is fair enough.  But eventually we got cold, so we went and sat in their living room.  Once we realised we couldn't get a bus, we found rooms in a hotel.  Mrs. Reid carpooled 4 of us at a time to the hotel just down the road. We ordered food, had a team meeting, then Lexi, Sara, Kaihla and I went in the pool!  I brought my camera, being waterproof and we had so much fun being idiots in the pool!  We didn't have to worry about getting a good night's sleep because we didn't have volleyball in the morning and all of that, so we were in the pool for a good 3 hours or so until they closed it.  Then we went back to our rooms, and were in each others rooms until early in the morning =]

Waking up at 9.00 was much easier than 7.00 as usual.  We went and had breakfast, then packed our stuff as we waited for Mr. Midford to arrive with a bus that he'd driven from Cold Lake that morning!  He was a bit angry when he arrived, but I guess he had woken up at like 6.00am to drive 6 hours to pick up 15 noisy and wild kids.  Mr. Publow drove back, so that made him a little better.  We arrived home at about 7.00pm Sunday night, and we had school the next day!
