Charlotte and Terry's daughter Shannon took me to Edmonton for a while during the summer holidays for a change.  Edmonton is the biggest city near Cold Lake, so there was much more happening there.  So I stayed with Shannon and her 1 year old daughter Brooklyn.  Marvin, Shannon's fiance, was in Afghanistan with the army, and I haven't met him yet.  I was in Edmonton for about a month.  We went to lots of different malls, and I helped Shannon shop alot for things for her wedding, which was pretty fun.  She also took me to Capital Ex, which is a bit like the Melbourne Show.  There were rides and fair things and stuff like that, not that I did much of it.  But there were tanks from the army there and different areas of defense with displays and things like that, and the search and rescue people were trying to recruit me until I said I live in Australia.  Then they were saying that I should join in Australia.  There was also a butterfly house which was pretty cool.  They were landing all over us and some on Brooklyn's hat.  We had to make sure that she didn't attack them, but I think she got one a little bit...
The qualifying finals for the Beijing Olympics in canoe water polo were held in Edmonton.  We went and watched that for a while, which was pretty interesting.  The Australian team was there, not that we watched them or spoke to them, but I saw their team jackets and the flag on the canoes.  We watched a game Japan vs Italy and I was so excited when I heard the Italian coach yell out 'Andiamo!' because it's about the extent of my Italian knowledge.  It means 'lets go!'  Haha so yes I was pretty proud of that.  But I think the Japanese team won.  Not that I'm sure about that either. We also went to Fort Edmonton Park, which is a bit like Soverign Hill.  People were dressed up in the old fashion and they had houses and stores all displaying the old lifestyles.  So we spent a day there looking around.
One day it was pretty hot so we went to the 'beach in the city' with Shannon's cousin, Jamie, and her son, Tristen.  It was just a bit of a concrete area with water fountains and everything.  I took Brooklyn for a swim but after a while it got a bit cold.
Then on August 10th it was Brooklyn's first birthday!  She got lots of noisy toys and a Barbie quad bike curtesy of Terry.  She really is very spoilt haha!  A few people came over to Shannon's to celebrate.  Charlotte came down too, but it was really really hot that day which wasn't good.  The day after that I was back in Cold Lake for the rest of the summer.
