In all our Snow Ventures, especially our first one in Quebec city,
It felt like... we were ''3 Alice... falling into the ''wondersnowland.''...
With extremely high enthusiasm, We meet people from different countries, with different cultures, be it white or black, some speak English where mostly not. Funny to say, to most European or Americans, we gals from Singapore are equivalent to some exotic tribes kids in some parts of South East Asia.
One even asked me question like: Are people in our country, eyes all so long and small ... (what the xxx)
Whatever and no matter how silly the questions we encountered, most teams that we met were fun people and always willing to advise us when we met with difficulties. However, at the same time, we did encountered a few snares from teams whom misunderstood that we were in the snow for fun. :(
Aiya, whatever so ever, and how we were treated, we gave those that left deep impression with significant styles a nickname, based on our feelings / first impression or encounters with them.
The first one in the list is:
1) Mr Incredible from USA @ 2005
He is such a Mr nice guy, we met him during the open ceremony as USA team was sharing the same table as us. The first impression of them was 3 x man in white ( we even secretly laughed a little at the uniform :p): irony combination of 2 small old man and big friendly giant.
hee... the sparkles started off with a dare to eat our nation flower that was used as a garnish for the buffet pallet. He was named Mr incredible due to his enormous built and a slight resembleme to this cartoon character. We taught him how to say 'like shit' in our dialect > '' ga na sai!'' We liked him alot and sticked to him where ever we went like he's our big daddy. He was one of the few sculptors who were soooooo sincere and nice to us, showered us alot of encouragement and care when we met with difficulties in our block, like a big awesome brother. Hence he is someone we always remember and hope to meet again, sometime, somewhere! :)
2) Why not from Belgium @ 2005/ 2006/ 2007
Another Mr nice guy we met during the first year. Belgium team's snow block was just next to ours, block no 8 :) He always reply why not what ever we ask him. That's why not is call why not.
3) Mr touch nini's butt from Estonia @ 2005
A drunkard artist. << first impression. Touchy and loud on the open ceremony dinner. He tried to hugged me and touched nini's butt on that fateful nite. oops..
One man show as his teammates back off and left him finished the snow block alone. However a snob he was to us in the beginning, he came over our block and shout for our safety when we tried to bring the big snow block down. I still remembered, he was actually quite pissed as he felt that we didn't practice any safe precaution when we sculpted. Hence although he scolded us like idiots, I knew that he was just being concern. :) In fact our suicide stunt attracted alot of people over, including the US, Canada team n our worried nanny, Carole. And best of all, we earned a free ride back to hotel after the dreadful day of work!
4) Sunshine man from Canada @ 2005
He called himself Sunshine boy and I corrected him; ''hey I think you are old enough to be call a sunshine man.'' ... and we all laughed. ha ha....
I guessed he was abit annoyed at that time as his face turned blue red awhile. But still, he hide his xxx and still treat us like little gals. haha..
There was another incidence when we were having lunch together at the usual H building's canteen, he boost to us on how powerful his tools were, how fine his sander were made, hee.. hee.. so we approached him to lend us his ''beri powderful'' sander. A bit reluctant, we could tell, he still loan us one very big sander which was really powerful, but too heavy n big for us. Nevertheless, we still grabbed on to the enormous sander to do the final finishing for our enrapture (name of our work).
5)Mr white hair from Peru @ 2005/ 2007 ( below picture, the guy extreme left, standing.)
One cute guy with white hair... nini's favorite. maybe she can talk about him more?? why not.. hee...hee
6)Mr good man from Peru @ 2005 (the one with a cap @ first row extreme left, just next to joey)
He was the photographer for Peru team at that time. He and white hair both looked like Asian Chinese. We get to know him when he took a picture of my ''warming foot'' when I pasted hot pads on my freezing toes during the break time of work.
We had a small chat on the last white nite at the camp fire, set for the nite sculptors like us to keep warm. Then I know that Peru was a state in America << he told me hee.. my geography is too lousy so I never know and couldn't really relate when he tried to explain to me on the geographical position of their country. :p
7) Macho man from Mexico @ 2005/ 2006/ 2007
8) Ricky Martin from Mexico @ 2005/ 2006/ 2007
9) Mr Stylo from Canada @ 2006
10) Viking from France @ 2005 /2007
11) Racoon from USA @ 2006
12) Curly Hair @ 2005/ 2006
One of JOey's infatuation when we were at the event. Oops..
13) Michael, Donald and Gisli >The Canadian Team from Yukon @ 2006/2007/ 2008
Hey hey.. these are their real name, I guess they are the only team that is safe from our nick games. To be frank, we didn't communicate with any of them during the first 2 years. I guess maybe we were pretty loud at that time, didn't notice them and they weren't as friendly. We even secretly felt that they don't really like us alot though, .. in the beginning..
Actually, we were surprised and a bit happy to see them in Innichen. Its like seeing old friends on the other part of the world. Unlike our previous encounters with them, they are much much approachable and friendly, esp gisli and Michael. They even share and taught us on how to use some really good tools for snow sculpting! During our sculpting at St vigilos, we were quite lucky to be their neighbors. Hence very often, when we sculpted, all the bing bang bong from our side alerted them and they seem like they were be in our recuse at any time.. hee :) Anyway I'm not going to analysis why was the change of their attitudes toward us, but we really felt ACKNOWLEDGMENT of our snow sculpture from them this time at Innichen which made us extremely elated and proud of ourselves!!!
They are in fact awesome sculptors as they organized their very own snow sculpture event in their town. We were invited to participate too, wow.. Yeah!
http://www.snowcarver.ca/ Their website, which we goal to achieve and more as it motivated me to sat up an International snow Artist Caravan website, a caravan that gathers and invites all snow artist from all over the world to share their achievement and dreams to leave a word or their blog/ website/ snow sculpture events. A website that has no boundaries but only for those who share the same affiliation in snow sculptures.
