Wanted to kick things off with an intro from sunny San Diego. I have officially said goodbye to SF and handed over the keys to my apartment. It's a trip. Max is hanging out with his animal family in Texas, and I miss him much. To console myself I've been relaxing all week, embracing the SoCal vibe and enjoying the warmth that comes from not being in San Francisco (I still love you SF). It's been a lot of coffee shops and outdoor patios (with wifi), lots of sun (with a sunburn on the first day - I've been mindful of my sunscreen since), good food, cooking nights, red wine, and most importantly good company. I've been catching up with the likes of KT and CP and, of course, Peppers - who seems to be, quite amusingly, more dog than kitty. I checked out the San Diego Zoo today, haven't been since I was a little lass... it was entertaining. Panda Bears, Gorillas and Elephants, oh my.

I head back to SF briefly on Monday to meet up with Julia for our 11 hour flight to London. It's going to be a long day of flying. I feel ready... well mostly. There are a few things I still need to take care of, but primarily I'm still trying to decide what in my bag I can part with - traveling light(ish) is the goal. I was originally impressed with what I had managed, but there are those that would tell me I am taking too many shoes. Blasphemy.

My trip is anything but planned... I'm not stressing (that's new). I figure this way I will have something to do while on the road (research, that is, not stress... I hope). What has been confirmed is England, where Julia's Bath (England) residing parents have graciously agreed to take me in for the week. Then it's off for a few days in London before heading to Faro, Portugal. We've rented a unit on the beach (thank you Airbnb) and I'm hoping it turns out to be as picturesque as it looks. If nothing else, we've had fun deciphering the emails from the owner, one non-English speaking Jose. From there we'll experience Portugal and see what time we have left for Southern Spain before Julia departs, leaving me to travel solo where I will - to quote my San Diego hair dresser - have "Eat, Pray, Love moments." On the loose agenda, post England, Portugal and Spain: More of Spain, Paris, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Vienna, the Cote d'Azur for some quality time with the family, and any/everything in between. I'm winging it, so much of this will probably change.

Until then... I'm lucky to have such awesome friends in such a sunny city.

xoxo
