June 9 Thursday  - Return Home

Last night spent trying to repack everything and making arrangements for the shuttle pickup for the airport. This morning, early breakfast at 7. Everyone seems to be up for our last meal together.

Finally, 7:30 pickup arrives, hugs goodbye. Ginger and I share the trip to the airport. Our flight (one of 2 per day??) to SLC leaves at 9:15. We're planning on getting there just 1 hour before takeoff but out driver (one of the recent retirees to St. George) thinks we're getting there way too early. He's somewhat proven to be correct when we discover that the TSA check-in isn't open yet.

Then we board the little CRJ200- about 20 rows of 4- bigger than the plane I rode down here. Grab a sandwich in the SLC airport since there's no meals on these babies. I gulp it down in the brief wait for our plane to board. Only to discover we're slightly delayed after we board- No first officer. I guess we need one of those. They finally track down two candidates, both on their way to the airport. The pilot says he'll take whichever one gets there first. I just keep reading....

Arrival and bag collection in SFO with no problems. But I discover it's quite a long and mysterious trek to BART. I"m sure I've taken the wrong turn and I schlep my way through the parking building. BUT finally rewarded with the familiar site. I load up and begin the nearly last leg of the journey home. Taxi waiting at my station- but the driver is sound asleep. Seems a little groggy and with minimal English skills, but we communicate and he gets me all the way home.

I drop the bags and flop on the bed. Time for all unpacking stuff later...now I can just relax until Monday. Maybe start organizing all those photos tomorrow! What a lot of great memories- the Bay Area looks bland after all that Navajo sandstone!
