Where I stayed
This morning the first stop is an ancient Christian burial site- this dates back to the early days of Christianity in Egypt. I was expecting head stones or something. It's actually quite large with extensive tomb structures, and chapels with lovely although simple paintings inside that depict the main stories of the bible.
We visit a date factory and then a pottery/weaving school. Purchases of course are optional...
The last site is a temple from the Ptolemy and Roman times. Many portions of it are well preserved.
Finally we head out across the desert for Luxor. We have a bag lunch from our hotel that we eat on the way.
We approach Luxor from the West Bank where we'll be visiting the tombs tomorrow. The city is smaller than Alexandria, but has some similarities to it - the roadway along the river, much cleaner and quieter than Cairo, fewer cars and much less garbage. The hotel is very modern. My balcony barely has a view of the Nile. We're on our own for dinner. Pat and I meet in the bar for a beer where T. joins us along with Cigar friend. Then Pat and I share a pizza in the hotel café. Jammies time at last!
