We are actually in Washington DC, but have been in Boston and Philidelphia without actually being able to log on and update. So this is a retrospective report on Boston.

Boston was a ball ache.

America is a fairly new country, not yet 300 years of history, so what little they do have is really rammed down your throat. Nowhere more so than Boston, the home of the war of war of independence(against the British).

Being a fairly patriotic Brit it was a little hard to swallow the constant reminders of British war crimes and American heroism. There are memorials to heroes everywhere. You cannot walk past a building without finding a plaque commemorating the place where some war hero lived or even just spent the night. They really do dwell on the past.

We also got ripped of in a bar, we paid $13 for a pint of beer and a glass of wine. That is more expensive than England! and I even had to leave a tip.

Throughout our trip so far we have also been inundated with Camp Councillors. These are usually English students who have worked in an American Summer Camp and are now doing a bit of travelling before going home. Nearly everyone we have met in hostels has been one of these. None of them have said they will do it again, some of them working 16 hour days for $35 a week. It`s a new form of slavery.

The American people have so far lived up to the stereotype, countless people have said "I love your accent" and even more have said "You have a great day". They are just like you see on TV, though I`m sure there must be some exceptions.

The search goes on.

I love when foreigners come and trash talk the natives. Thanks for your tourist $$$ and don't let the door hit you on the way out.
