We took a 'quick" trip down to Pompeii and what an amazing day it was. We woke early and busted our hineys to get to the Metro to the main terminal train station. We caught a very nice train (super fast kind of thing) to Naples...only took an 1.5 hours to get there (perfect for a catnap) and then the local "not so nice" train for 30 minutes.

The city was astonishing with streets, houses, shops, temples, a Hall of Justice, a bath house and so much more. It was truly a feast for my Rebel and zoom lense. (uploading pics soon...slow internet tonight).

Was it crowded, you might ask? No. Even if it had been crowded when we arrived in the main gate, info, ticket area...once folks enter the city there are so many paths to take that everyone fans out in every direction.

We opted for the audio guide (and they even had a child version which Hannah enjoyed) which came with a map that had several "routes" planned out that allowed for different time frames each. We followed a two hour tour fairly closely and saw everything we wanted to see. By a couple of hours, we were ready to get out of the sun.

We heard someone say that this is the most visited site on earth. Not sure if that is true but I would not be surprized is it was.
