Happy Birthday Valerie!!!

Another beautiful sunny and hot morning. Today was a short drive from Albuquerque to Santa Fe a distance of only 90 miles so we were in no hurry to leave; and we decided to take the scenic route rather than I-25.  We took NM Rt. 14, which is designated as the "Turquoise Trail" a National Scenic Byway.  This was a two lane state road that basically followed the contour of the land through the desert; it was a nice drive with some hills and small mountains with fantastic overlooks.  There were several small towns along the way, but all were run down; at one time when the mines were operating they were prosperous towns, but today they are just shy of a ghost town.  We found a nice campground just outside Santa Fe, “Rancheros de Santa Fe Campground”, and we spent the afternoon relaxing at the pool.  Being Valerie's birthday we went out to dinner at “Steaksmith” a local steak and seafood restaurant; the meal was very good.
