This morning was a time for the mundane
but necessary household chores, principally washing of windows and doing
laundry.
The afternoon was the highlight of the day, a ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad for a 4 hour excursion from Clarkdale to the Perkinsville ghost ranch, and return to Clarkdale.  This was a ride through high desert, along the Verde River and through portions of the Verde Canyon only accessible by rail.  We passed by towering rock formations, near ancient Indian ruins, and through a 680 foot tunnel.  It was a beautiful ride that could be viewed from the comfort of the Pullman cars or from open-air cars with a complete view of surrounding country side; we were on an open-air car for most of the trip, enjoying the views.  There was a recorded narration over the loud speaker system describing the terrain we were traveling through, history of the area and an explanation of the geology; along with this mechanical narration there was also a conductor in every car that explained all
that the recorded narrator was saying and he went further by answering all of our questions.  This was a very enjoyable afternoon.
