This morning was cold and rainy, when we woke up it was 58 degrees inside, so it must have been colder outside; and then while we were eating breakfast it started to rain. Luckily it stopped raining by the time we started to pack up to move.  We traveled west on I-8, north on I-15 to I-215 north, then CA Rt 60 east, and I-10 east to exit 117 and the town of "Desert Hot Springs", (north west of Palm Springs).  We are staying at “Caliente Springs RV Resort”, a Passport America Campground; the resort is principally a winter residence for snow birds but it is now basically deserted, it is a very large and beautiful facility.  The drive here was mostly on interstate highways and basically boring until we hit I-10 and we entered the mountains, and like most mountains in the desert they were steep, rocky and barren.  Approaching the valley in which Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs sit we passed through an area between two mountains which was full of large windmills, they were too numerous to count, and as soon as we turned perpendicular to them we felt the strength of the wind and we realized why they were here.  At the campground the wind was equally as strong and periodically the wind would blow strong enough to rock the camper.  After setting up camp we took a ride into Palm Springs to see the city, it was a beautiful area with many gated and walled apartments and single family homes; even the shopping centers were upscale.  The developed area was much larger than we anticipated, comprising of several cities that ran into each other making one continuous residential area.  We had dinner at a local restaurant in the town of “La Quinta”; it was a quaint little establishment where we had a wonderful fish dinner.
