Where I stayed
After a rather long ferry-trip i arrived in Dubrovnik. It is a pretty city, but even now in low-season, completely overrun with tourists. The Croatians know how to cater to these tourists and turned their entire city into a big open-air restaurant with matching souvenir-shops.
Like Florence and Barcelona these places cannot be visited in high-season and i am wondering why i am here at all.
Outside the tourist-trap i found a nice hostel. Nice people that really go the distance in making their guests feel welcome. Yesterday we had a family-dinner...and a lot of wine. When the old man started pouring wine and telling about the city there was no stopping him....there went my alcohol-free night. I got up ok this morning though which tells me something about the quality of the wine.
Next day i made it on the wall. Spending 10 euro is a bit much for these kind of things...but the locals know how far they can take the price it seems. Even nicer was the boat-ride to the island just of the coast. A nice botanical garden, small salt lake and a fort make it an ideal day-trip.
