Amsterdam is probably the only city most tourist visit during their stay in the Netherlands...a bit of a shame because there are other nice places to see...but it is understandable.
To get started in Amsterdam a cruise of the canal (around €8,-) is a good idea. After that there are a number of good museums like the Van Gogh museum, the Stedelijk Museum or the Ann Frank house to name a few....or you can visit a coffee-shop. For those who still don't know....a coffee-shop is for smoking dope...and maybe a plastic cup of instant coffee :-)
At night Amsterdam has a lot of clubs or you can have a stroll round the red-light district. The politicians are always talking about getting rid of the worlds oldest profession in this part of town.....but so far it seems just talk....it's business as usual.
