Where I stayed

Not originally in our plans but seeing as we were in Pucon we decided to go to either Valporisso or Santiago for a few days and in the end Santiago got the nod. All our strenuous activities are done at this stage of the trip, so itīs pool time from now on. We stayed in a really nice hostel called īLa Casa Rojaī, itīs big with a nice pool out the back. The pool was badly needed as the temperatures were well in to the 30īs.

Our first day in Santiago was exactly the same as one of the days in La Paz. We landed straight into our 2nd Presedential election day of the trip. As with La Paz, everything was shut down for the day & the streets deserted. Thousands crowded into the city centre streets at night time for the results announcement.

We didnīt do a whole pile in santiago bar relax by the pool which was what we intended. The second day we went to a local market which we were told was supposed to be good but youīd buy more from the stalls in Cahirciveen on a fair day! After that we went to a huge shopping centre which was only a few minutes ride on the metro. The place was huge & really like something youīd see in the U.S. or Europe, with the prices to match. Here we took in our first film in a cinema in South America, we saw `Avatarī, which thankfully was in English with Spanish subtitles.

Thereīs not a whole pile to report from our stay here. We did go out 2 nights but found the nightlife pretty poor to be honest. One club we went to played raggaeton all night, which we are well and truly sick of after our few months travelling down here! To be fair it was a Monday & Tuesday night so itīs hard to say whether the nightlife in santiago is good or not.

Next up Rosario...
