Considering that Bled is a small town, we spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to find Pension Berc. We had the address, and found a house with a doorbell labelled "Berc", but it didn't look like a pension. The door was wide open and no one was about. We rang. No reply. Eventually we asked someone who pointed us down the road and around the corner. Ended up around the other side of the house we had stopped at and found the Hotel and Pension both owned by the Berc family. What a fantastic place! - Large room with a sunny terrace with 2 chairs and a table (perfect for our "pre-dinner aperitif"). There is free internet in the lobby, an honesty bar and a book exchange. Plus free use of the mountain bikes - just help yourself from the garage.

Took bikes and cycled around the lake. It didn't take long as it is only 6kms, although we went very slowly as we had to dodge pedestrians!
Returned the bikes to Pension Berc and walked to the viewpoint at the end of the lake. The hike up to the viewpoint was quite rocky and pretty steep, but the views made it all worthwhile.
Walked back around to Molino and found a good spot for sunbathing with "easy lake access" for swimming. Nikki showed how easy it was by slipping on the algae covered step and doing a spectacular belly fop into the lake!
Highlights of Bled
- Vintgar Gorge: a fantastic place 4kms walk from the centre of Bled. Blue water and green sheer cliff walls.
- Relaxing by the lake: sunbathing, reading and listening to the accordion players busking.
- Dinner at Osterija Peglez'n: Local fish served over a huge fresh salad followed by charlotte cake which was a vanilla mousse with raspberry sauce. We ate on the terrace with views of the lake and castle.
Lowlights of Bled
We had a rather unpleasant meal at a restaurant called Gostlina Pri Planincu. The place was full of flies, the people at every other table seemed to chain smoke throughout their meal and we made a very unfortunate choice of Slovenian speciality - greasy sausage-like meat rissoles, even greasier meat patties, pork chops, and kebabs accompanied by chopped raw onion
Tuesday - August 7th, 2007
Booked a horse riding trip for Nikki, then walked to Molino for a swim and sunbathed by the lake. It was much quieter here today than it was on Sunday - I guess this is a popular spot for locals to spend the weekend.
It was threatening a big storm with thunder in the hills when at 6:15pm Nikki headed off for her horse riding, so she put on a plastic rain jacet and set off ready to brave the elements. I took the lazy option and stayed at Pension Berc watching TV (it has full satellite TV with English channels, including the Discovery Channel and the Travel Channel... way more that I'll ever have at home!) When Nikki came back she peeled off her rain jacket to reveal an extremely sweaty t-shirt... she even had sweaty tits! I never realised riding was such good exercise!
After Nikki had showered and changed, we walked to the Art Café and binged on ice-cream served in a bowl with molten chocolate around it (a bit like a reverse fondue) ...yum.
