After just over 18months away I returned to Colombia, one of my favourite countries. A smile from the immigration officer and paying less than a dollar for a bus ride from the airport to the city centre is a great start to any country! I had booked into Platypus Hostel which is a Bogota institution - great location, warm atmosphere and lots of interesting people. The owner, Herman, is a mine of useful information and has even been known to hand out free beers!! The day after I arrived my amigos Matty & Justin also flew into Bogota and so the weekend was spent partying with them and the locals in the barrio of Ligaka, an hour and a half north of Bogota centre. On Sunday night five of us from the hostel went to see a football game in Bogota. We arrived at El Stadio to see one end literally shaking with the numbers of people jumping up and down - so we pointed to that section whilst buying our tickets and found ourselves crowded behind the goal amongst the notorious 'Brigade de Millonarios'. The fans here take passion to a new level.. huge blue flags were unfurled down the whole terrace and everyone dances and sings constantly whilst the game is being played. We were all totally unprepared for the bedlam that greeted the first goal and Simon ended up upside down over a barrier as the crowd surged forward. We all collected various other bumps and bruises during the rest of the match, especially as the goals went in, but it was well worth it - definitely one of the best football games I have ever been to!! Final score Millionarios 3 Junior Barranquilla 1. Monday was a quiet day but I visited the church of Monserrate which is on a hill overlooking Bogota and you get great views over the city, but if you look the other direction you see nothing but jungle - amazing!! After 6 days in the city I decided to escape and so on Wednesday morning took an early bus to Guican which is 10hours to the North East.

sounds similar to what I just did for last week's semana santa. When were you there, and how did you fare in Guican?
