We arrived in Xi'an Friday dinnertime after taking the luxurious (but fairly cheap) option of a 2 hour flight from Shanghai. Xi'an is a walled city and very well maintained inside the walls with a lovely restored Bell Tower, Drum Tower and Mosque. The city is said to be at least 2,000 years old and has a lot of history, including the Terracotta Warriors just outside the city. Paul and I enjoyed a walk round in the sunshine on Friday afternoon and loved having a look round the Mosque with it's lovely old Chinese style gardens. On Friday night there was a dumpling party at the hostel where we got to make Pork & Cabbage dumplings and Leek & Egg dumplings then eat them. It was a good way of meeting other people at the hostel and I was fortunate to make friends with some girls who wanted to visit the Terracotta Warriors (as Paul didn't want to go). On Saturday I went with the girls to see the Warriors which I thought were amazing. I haven't taken any pics but we'll find some on google to put on. All the warriors, chariots and horses are very lifelike all with individual features and faces and are stood like a real army. Qin Ling apparently had these warriors made before he died to 'protect' him in his after life. The warriors were made about 2000 years ago then buried along with Qin Ling and only discovered in the mid 1970s... Whilst I was visiting the warriors with some of the girls from the hostel, Paul had a walk round Xi'an city. He visited one of the parks where the Chinese were singing to each other and said he had a lovely time just seeing Chinese people having fun (they don't always smile a lot). Paul and I had some great street food whilst in Xi'an - freshly made and wokked noodles -sooooo yummy...
After a brief visit to Xi'an our next stop was going to be the central China countryside....
