Welcome to Hong Kong - the city with arguably the most spectacular harbour view in the world. Thats if you can see it.. during our 4 days here we had the odd glimpse but there was no sign of a clear day, in fact sometimes you couldn't even see the tops of the buildings here. With skyscrapers everywhere, HK is as modern as they get and crazily busy but getting around is surprisingly easy. A modern fast metro, express airport train, countless ferries and buses and overhead walkways all enable you to explore the citys sights with ease - but our favourite were the ancient trams which rattle up and down the main routes of Hing Kong Island itself. Across the water is the main tourist ghetto Kowloon and you can't walk more than 10yards without someone trying to sell you fake rolexes, tailor made suits or entice you into a restaurant. Instead we stayed in the quiet Causeway Bay Guesthouse and had a much more relaxing time as the touts seem to disappear once you leave Kowloon behind. We did enjoy our stay though visiting ancient temples, eating some lovely food and exploring the beautiful parks. We also took a ferry to the nearby island of Lamma to see its more laid back lifestyle and beautiful beaches (albeit next to a big modern power station!). After collecting Mandy's passport from the Chinese embassy we fly to Beijing today (Wed) to start our trip into China.
