Indy Racing hits town and a weekend of partying

We arrived in Surfers Paradise on Friday and the town was jam-packed with people. Half the town centre had been closed off to make a street-circuit for the Indycar Racing and most hotels, apartments and hostels were full with people here to watch the racing and party. We stayed in a dorm room at 'Cheers' hostel which was really friendly, if a bit short of bathrooms (regular queues for the showers in the morning). We bought weekend tickets to the circuit and watched everything from Porsches in the dark (Friday night) through to V8 Supercars (Fords and Holdens). Sunday was the final day of racing with two V8 Supercar races and the IndyCar race and we cheered on the British drivers in each series (Russell Ingham & Justin Wilson) who finished 4th and 7th respectively. Around the track there were thousands of spectators as well as hundreds of model pr girls for the race teams. We also saw the famous Surfers Paradise 'meter maids' who parade in gold bikinis and feed coins into expired parking meters for lucky motorists - maybe Manchester should introduce them ??? When we weren't watching the racing we partied with the beautiful people at Shooters, Central and various other bars and clubs in the town centre. Our hostel organised free entry and free drinks so we had late night after late night and did well to still watch the races despite our hangovers. Everyone was in party mood the whole weekend and the Aussies treat it like a 'mardi-gras'. On all the apartment balconies there are lots of drunken lads encouraging the beautiful girls to flash their boobs at them - and they get a surprisingly high number of takers although Mandy politely declined..... This was definitely the biggest party of the East coast so far and an amazing weekend. We left at Monday lunchtime looking forward to catching up on lost sleep on our short journey up the coast to Brisbane.
