The next day we moved on to Oaxaca heading further south. We had to go via Cuernavaca and Cuatla. The only bus to Oaxaca from Cuatla was a night bus so we wandered around the town for a while. Paul got his hair cut for a pound, it's quite difficult to explain how you want your hair cut but the lady was so meticulous - she even used a cut throat razor for neatness at the back and on the sideburns!!
The night bus was cold but we arrived in Oaxaca safe and sound early in the morning. We checked into a lovely hotel with a nice courtyard and slept for a few hours to make up for lost sleep on the bus. We then had a look at the local shops, market and church around the main plaza area. Just relaxing really and taking in the Mexican atmosphere. We've also been to the large market at Ocatlan about 15/20 miles from Oaxaca where we saw everything from pig's heads to chicken's feet, piglets to chicks and a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables and other produce. We stopped at the market stalls that were cooking food and got made fun of by the locals, it was only really a joke and they were very welcoming - they didn't think that we would try the local food (just McDonalds and Hamburgers). We sat down and ordered some of the local food, whilst we were waiting the man next to me stopped a seller who had fried crickets for sale. I had to try one (as it was a bit of a dare I think) so I gave Paul one too.. they were actually quite tasty!!
Moving on to the coast tomorrow for some sunbathing and relaxing.
