 Saskatoon/June 21st

We arrived in Saskatoon and stayed in the Gordon Howe Campgroud, yes after the hockey player. I'm not sure what hockey and camping have in common but none the less that’s where we parked our dear Gaby for the night.   We managed to get the last campsite available.  Once we were set up we heading into town on our bikes along the Trans Canada Trail and took in a water park and festival along the way.  Our original plan called for us to be in Saskatoon for 2 days but we are anxious to get up north and so we left and continued along the Yellowhead highway towards Edmonton.  The Yellowhead Highway gets its name from the Iroquois Metis guide known as "Tete Jaune".  He guided for the greatest fur traders, the Hudson Bay Company and the North West Company.  This highway was once considered a secret path from Manitoba to the Rockies to find caches of furs.  You see, we are actually learning as we go.  The next day we set out for Edmonton.

Again following the Yellowhead, we arrived at the Saskatchewan/Alberta border and met up with a couple traveling to Alaska and then San Diego from Cantley, Quebec.  Funny how things are sometimes.  I wonder if we will run into them again along the way, it unlikely but you never know.  We found a our next campground, Hidden Lake Ranch and Campground.   It wasn’t that hidden, all we had to do was follow the signs!  As soon as we arrived I witnessed the black clounds settling around us.  I quickly boiled some water and cooked dinner as the lightening was moving closer and closer.  No outdoor meal tonight, quick get in the camper before the heavens open up.  And it rained, rained and rained and in the morning it was beautiful once again.  I must say that the rain we have so far experienced on our voyage has been either at night while driving.  Saskatchewan has been hard hit by rain this year.  Flooding and wet crops have caused havoc all over the prairies.  The ground seems to be wet everywhere you walk.
