After being in totally westernised countries with mainly english speaking locals, coming to Thailand was a bit of a culture shock. We have had to learn the lingo (well hello and thankyou is all we've managed so far) and adjust to the Thai way of life. Everybody in Thailand is really friendly and although they try and get you to buy their things they don't hassle you at all like in other places we've been. The scenery is spectacular with gorgeous beaches and palm tree's, mountains and lush green hills.

When we arrived in Phuket (pronounced poo-get you dirty minded people)from Singapore we were ready for the scorching weather we had been used to but unfortunately as it is the end of the rainy season it was .... raining. It tipped it down on and off for the first 2 days and then on the 3rd day it tipped it down all day! Thankfully it has been gorgeous weather since and we have managed to act very British and get a bit sunburnt.

At the moment we are staying on an Island called Phi Phi Don, it is a really stunning place with white sand, blue sea, coral reef, wild monkeys (who actually came onto the beach and nicked a girl's flip flop), palm tree's and a local market area with restaurants, bars, shops and craft stalls. We haven't really done much whilst in Thailand except sunbathe, eat, drink, shop (Paul was dead impressed) and sleep.

We did take a trip to an island nearby called Koh Phi Phi Ley which is an uninhabited national park just next to Phi Phi Don. We hired a little long boat to take us over to the island and it has got to be said that it looked the most unseaworthy boat we have ever seen. When we were crashing through the waves Paul was clutching his camera as we came close to capsising (nice to see where his priorities are!!) Our first stop was Maya bay which is where they filmed "The Beach" it was just as beautiful as on the film but a bit busy with day trippers. We then travelled around the other side of the island to go snorkelling in a little cove where there was some reef. The visibility was amazing and the fish so colourful. We saw Nemo again, along with angel fish, butterfly fish, big fish, little fish and some very long fish. It was really good but a bit scary as you had to dodge oncoming long boats.

Well, the sun is out and our beer is cold in the fridge of our beachfront wooden bungalow so we had better go now. We will think of you all whilst we are chilling on the beach and swimming in the clear turquoise sea.
