I changed the message on the voicemail, emptied the bin and locked the office this afternoon.  Now I can reallly think about our trip!. When we booked it in May this year, we knew that it would suddenly be on us, and it is! We really enjoy the research and preparation, but one minute we are still browsing and surfing the web - which museums, how to travel, top ten things to do - and the next we are frantically trying to tie down SIMs and camera batteries, watering systems in the garden, eating up what's in the fridge and pulling out woollen jumpers on a 30 degree day! We can't even imagine how cold we will be this time next week! It was one of the more impulsive big things we have done in our lives.  After looking at our frequent flyer points and realising that we could go there and back, we joked over a lunch about where we could go.  I said, "Christmas in Paris?" and that's just what we are going to do.  Our last visit to Paris was in 1998, and it was very brief - we promised ourselves that we would return one day to this beautiful city. The only time I can take off is over our summer break, so that means - winter in Europe!!

We have noticed the difference from our other two trips; almost everything we need to know is on the internet. We checked out all our accommodation, read reviews, looked at maps and locations, street views before we booked.  Sometimes it was too much information! On our last two trips I have kept a hand written diary, but this time I have launched this blog.  Not sure how it will feel because I like writing in a little book! I think it will make a difference to what and how I write, but maybe our family and friends will keep up with where we are. We'll see.

Tonight we are looking at museum passes but after much adding up have decided we are better off to buy separate tickets. Soon we will be gazing at those paintings!

Hooray! I bet it feels a bit more real now. Looking forward to more eloquent posts, as only you guys can.

We'll miss you, but are very happy that you guys are still chasing your dreams (of the Parisian variety)!

Bon voyage!
