We returned to Bikaner after the camel trek for a welcome hot shower.
The following day we went out to the 'rat-temple' at Deshnok. For Nikki, most things in India seem to be either amazing or revolting. The rat temple, however, was amazingly revolting.
Devotees of Karni mata believe that departing soud are saved from the wrath of Yama, the god of death by being re-incarnated as rats.
As with all temples you leave your shoes by the door. So we walked barefoot over old food nad droppings on the temple floor, where the rats gather to drink milk from dishes or eat the blessed food. I'm glad that it's considered a great privlige to have one run over your feed as quite a few of the scabby souls scampered over whenever I stopped to take a photos.
